Because Hard Work Can Wait Five More Minutes
Here are some awesome music videos. Get 'em before the DMCA does. If you want to see some more, you can check out my del.icio.us's "music-video" tag.
Smashing Pumpkins - 1979
If you were a teenager in the 90s, or a kid in the 90s, or just born in them, this video might evoke wistful recollection of a more baseless stripe of despair, before the entire chain of events that ended American apolitical ambivalence (alliteration, what!). Or you could just like it. Whatever works.
Dean & Britta - Words You Used to Say
What is it about 70s kitsch and dual keyboard/guitar action that makes this video so soothing? Methinks it's that Dean "&" Britta are both easy on the eyes.
James Brown - Sex Machine
The hardest working man in show business. The tall guy playing the bass is Bootsy Collins.
Beck - The Golden Age
Life does not often correspond to our expectations. Even when we know what is about to happen and imagined every possible trajectory, what happens defies your anticipations in a myriad of obvious and subtle ways. It's remarkable, then, when something corresponds exactly: everytime I hear this song, I imagine driving down the coast of California during sunset, with the sun hanging over the ocean. And then I find this video.
Lily Chou-Chou - Kyoumei
All About Lily Chou-Chou, a recent film about middle school students growing up too fast in suburban Japan, gets its name from a fictional pop star created for the movie. Despite being fictional, Lily Chou-Chou released one album, Kokyu, in Japan, whose songs are featured in the film. This is a music video from that album.
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Back in high school, I wanted to be Freddie Mercury, even though I look nothing like a rock star, much less a male, gay and hairy one. Here, for your enjoyment, is "Bohemian Rhapsody" sans Wayne's-World interpolations.
We honestly don't know what the copyright considerations are here. Use as you will.
